EOS adds MT Aerospace AG to the new End-to-End Production Network as Partner for Additively Manufactured Metal Components

Augsburg, 16.02.2022. EOS, the leading supplier of responsible manufacturing solutions via industrial 3D printing (AM), has added MT Aerospace AG, a subsidiary of the OHB SE Group, as the second partner for its newly created end-to-end production network. If a company of any size is looking for first-class support - from design and serial additive production to the finished component, it will in future be able to make uncomplicated contact with the selected, certified EOS partners via the EOS network. The Augsburg based company MT Aerospace AG has been supplying structures and components for Aerospace for more than 50 years and, as a specialist for materials and processes, has now been appointed EOS partner in the field of metallic AM components.

"Our AM vision is to offer additive manufacturing of the highest standard. EOS is a market leader in industrial additive manufacturing; together we can bring the application of AM components along the supply chain to rapid series maturity by combining the expertise of both industries," explains Hans Steininger, CEO of MT Aerospace AG. "We are very pleased about the partnership and the confidence placed in us. MT Aerospace has a decades-long history in the production of high-precision metal components for Aerospace applications which must also meet the highest safety requirements."

Markus Glasser, Senior Vice President EMEA at EOS, adds: "We are pleased to now include MT Aerospace AG in our end-to-end production network as the first partner for the metal sector to offer additive series production of metal parts in large batch sizes. In this way, we are jointly creating scalable production capacities based on the latest EOS technology and thus real added value for customers." And he adds, "With this, a customer can minimize risk and complexity and has access to innovative product design, can rely on diverse materials and industry expertise in the network, and can ultimately bring products to market faster."

MT is ready (not only) for 3D-printing

"We are already widely represented in the field of additive manufacturing and have developed our own AM procedures and processes, among other things. Currently, we are in the process of expanding significantly in the industrial 3D printing sector and see this as an independent column of MT Aerospace AG. Our goal is the development and production of high-end AM components of the highest standard. For us, EOS is the right partner because EOS provides a complete solution comprising of materials, systems and processes that is easily scalable for us," explains Christian Hackenberg, Head of Aerospace/Defense, Technology & Growth Programs.

"We see ourselves as a premium supplier of additive manufactured parts in the high-end sector from Aerospace to Defense, Automotive and Medical Technology and to White Goods and the Maritime sector," adds Markus Axtner, Head of Additive Manufacturing at MT Aerospace. "As a recognized Tier-1 Aerospace supplier, we have integrated industrial 3D printing as an additional manufacturing process into our existing ISO9100-certified process chain with all standards. In doing so, we can access our Aerospace competencies in lightweight design, process development, welding, NDI, qualification and approval, which we will offer to EOS's customers as a complete package through the cooperation. We began introducing new AM technologies for large structures into the Future Launcher Preparatory Program last year as part of a major order from the European Space Agency ESA. Through the cooperation with EOS, together we will launch an accelerated and widespread application of additive manufacturing in the Aerospace sector as well as in other industries."

Additive Manufacturing scores!

On the production side, there are only a few limitations with industrial 3D printing processes, which means that even very complex geometries can be realized. In lightweight structures, additive manufacturing can achieve high strength values with a simultaneous mass reduction of up to 60 percent, with the additional advantage that less material is used. In the case of component groups, the number of single parts can be significantly reduced, which is, among other things, beneficial for assembly. Industrial 3D printing also offers significant time savings compared to conventional manufacturing processes. And if manufactured parts can be made so much lighter, this often results in lower fuel consumption and fewer CO2 emissions when they are later employed for operation.
